Drum Tuition

With over 30 years of playing drums in a whole host of different environments, from local bars and clubs to state of the art 5 star cruise ships I have vast experience and knowledge of playing the drums.

I teach a very wide variety of styles to all ages, on a one to one basis with well structured lessons adapted to suit the individual needs of the student, keeping a fun approach at all times. Students having never played drums before can expect to be playing simple drum patterns by the end of the first lesson. From there students can develop their skills and hone their own playing styles with various options including: stylistic vocabulary, click track playing, rudiments, music theory, reading, technique, posture, timekeeping and soloing as well as good unbiased advice.

Beginners with or without a kit of their own are welcome, lessons can give be a good idea to see if the student takes to the drums well and enjoys it, before going to the expense of buying a drum kit.

For those who want to take drum grades, I have years of experience with the 'Rockschool' and 'Trinity Rock and Pop' Syllabus, alternatively if you just want to learn to play like your favourite drummer, just let me know the track and I’ll have you playing like your idols in no time!

I currently teach private lessons from my home studio in Kings Norton as well as two secondary schools: The Coleshill School and The Queen Elizabeth Academy in Atherstone. I have previously taught for Solihull Music Service and Warwickshire Music Service. I am fully DBS checked.

Drums can often be a difficult instrument to accommodate, so I’m always willing to give friendly unbiased advice regarding all aspects of drumming and drum equipment.

Face To Face Lessons
I teach private lessons in my soundproof home drum studio in Kings Norton, which is completely separate from the house. The studio currently features two top end Roland electric kits side by side, but will soon feature a complete acoustic kit for exam preparation and acoustic kit experience.

Online lessons

Lessons are available on Zoom or Skype and only require a laptop with webcam and mic (built in is fine) or tablet with a reliable internet connection. Online lessons are safe and secure. I can advise on the best set up for your equipment and will provide a free initial set up prior to the lesson.

My set up includes a high definition webcam placed in an ideal position to frame the full kit and myself. I use a a high quality mic for speech with an electric kit through a sound card for crystal clear audio. The added benefit is that parts of the lesson can be recorded as a reference to aid practise. I can email over all resources as well as being able to share my screen to reference notation and graphics.
